Library usage guide for visitors

Library guide for visitors using Nagasaki University Library (Central Library, Medical Library, Economics Library).

Nagasaki University Library is open for any visitors who want to use it.
However, due to the regular examinations of Nagasaki University, you cannot enter the library during the following periods.
■Central Library
 ●From July 18 (Tue) to August 16 (Wed), 2017
 ●From January 13 (Sat) to February 12 (Mon), 2018
 (*Closed during the periods, August 12-16 and January 13-14)
■Medical Library
 ●From July 3 (Sun) to September 22 (Fri), 2017
 ●From November 6 (Mon), 2017 to February 28 (Wed), 2018
 (*Closed during the periods, August 11-16 and December 28-January 3)

 1. Range of use

Browsing, photocopying, circulation and inquiries related to the use of general materials in the library

 For circulation, you need to apply for a user ID card. Please seeFor continuous use.
 We do not provide an interlibrary service with other universities (photocopying of materials/borrowing books). Please inquire with your nearest public library.

 2.For temporary use

Central Library

  1. Fill out the “Browsing application form of Nagasaki University Library” at the counter.
  2. Receive a “user ID card (for visitors)”.
  3. Have the gate read the bar code on your user ID card (for visitors) to enter the library.
  4. When you have finished, return your user ID card (for visitors) at the counter on the way out.

Medical Library/Economics Library

  1. Call out to the staff from the gate at the entrance, enter the library when the gate opens.
  2. Fill out the “Browsing application form of Nagasaki University Library” at the counter.

 3. For continuous use

If you want continuous use and circulation, a “user ID card” will be issued. The ID card can be commonly used at the Central Library, the Medical Library and the Economics Library.

Terms of use
Your current address is in Nagasaki Prefecture.
※The user ID card will not be basically issued to students, teachers and staff of other universities.

Application process

Fill out the necessary information in the “Application form for user registration of Nagasaki University Library” (PDF)and submit it at either the counter of the Central Library, Medical Library or Economics Library.
Nagasaki University graduates and students of the Open University of Japan may use these user registration forms. (For graduates) (For students of the Open University of Japan)
(AcrobatReader is necessary to view the application forms)
The application forms are also provided at the library counters.

Documents necessary for application

Identification card issued by a public institution with which your contact information such as current address can be confirmed, including driver’s license, health insurance card, alien registration card and passport.
Graduates may need a document to prove their graduation such as a graduation certificate or diploma (copy possible). Students of the Open University of Japan may need a student ID card.

Notes

 The user ID card can be issued in approximately 30 minutes when applied for between 9:00 and 17:00 on weekdays.
 Though we try for a rapid response, please note that we may take longer to issue a user ID card, according to the application time and circumstances.

Validity

From the date of issue to end of March
 If a change occurs in your information after application, please make sure to contact the staff.

 5. Circulation

The books which you may borrow are general books of Nagasaki University library (Reference-only documents such as laboratory books, magazines and reference books are excluded).

Circulation terms (common in all libraries)

General visitors: 3 books within 2 weeks
 Graduates and the students of the Open University: 5 books of reading room and 5 books of stacks(Books) within 2 weeks

Circulation process

With the “books” that you want to borrow and your “user ID card,” carry out the circulation procedures at the circulation counter or using automatic book circulation.

Return process

Bring the books which you borrowed to the counter. Outside opening hours, use the return post at the entrance of the first floor.
 If you return after the deadline, you will not be able to borrow another book by the same number of late days. If a return delay is repeated, you may be refused usage.

 6. Photocopying

For the purpose of personal research and study, you may photocopy only the part of the document possessed by the library, within the copyright law. Fill out the necessary information in the “Application form for material photocopying (for library use)” and use the copier in the library. (Charge = 10 yen per black-and-white page.)

 7. Questions on usage

Please don’t hesitate to ask the counter staff if you don’t understand how to use the library or how to look for materials and information.

 8. Requests for usage

 Parking for cars and bicycles is limited so please use public transport when you visit.
 Refrain from talking and chatting in the library, so that other users will not be bothered.
 You cannot talk on a mobile phone in the library except in the designated area.
 Eating and drinking is strictly prohibited except in the designated area.
 Smoking is strictly prohibited in the library.
 Don’t leave your seat without your valuables.
